Candice Wilson Stayer has been a part of Portland’s legal community for 40 years. Stayer Legal Search was formed in 2000, and our exclusive focus is the placement of exceptional lawyers in Northwest law firms and companies. We are small by design and focused on what we do best.
We have worked with hundreds of outstanding associates, partners, and counsel to find lateral opportunities perfectly aligned with their goals and needs – all with a very personal touch. We are a search firm with recognized integrity and a reputation for being highly selective, knowledgeable, and discreet. It’s simply the only way to do business. After all, the success of every law firm depends on acquiring top talent.

We focus on the permanent placement of lawyers in Northwest law firms and companies, big and small.
Most of our searches are on an exclusive basis and most are never advertised. All information is received in confidence and your information will not be discussed or submitted to any employer without your permission. Our placement fee is paid entirely by the employer upon a successful placement.
We only present candidates to settings where we feel they are a good fit, we walk candidates through the process, and then we stay connected with our candidates after they have been placed to ensure a smooth transition for both the candidate and the employer.
We are different than other search firms. We develop deep relationships with employers and have significant industry insight and knowledge. Practicing law is hard work and practicing in the wrong setting makes the work that much harder.

We believe in “boots on the ground” recruiting and we know our markets well. With over 38 years of recruiting experience, Candice has developed deep relationships with Northwest law firms and companies, big and small.
Busy lawyers don’t read job postings. Even though a lawyer may be practicing locally, they usually don’t know where they would fit if they were to make a lateral move. They are concerned about confidentiality and are reluctant to apply directly. Candidates are personally interviewed and only the best qualified candidates (usually only a few) will be submitted to you for consideration.
Stayer Legal Search conducts searches on a contingency basis and our placement fee is a percentage of the individual’s total first year’s compensation (call for details). The fee is billed after the candidate has started his or her employment and our placements are guaranteed.
